Perfect design Sean...I Thing It Gives Your Character More 'Personality' Than Before...the first Designs were Nice Too but ...You Know what i mean.. theres times when u do like 20 different designs of one character in specific but something inside always tells you that it needs some tweaks that comes a little bit later with time..but i tell you for me..this is one is perfect. kudos!
I like everything but the boots (feel to separate from the other characters, more astro boy/ mega man) Though as many people have said the original feels better to me, try sticking them side by side for a good comparison (the silhouette is more interesting on the old one)
I like it, however, I must admit that I prefer the old design. I can't explain it, I just prefer the vibe from the original. Maybe it's because I get a bit of a Boy Scout vibe from this one. Then again I am more an Anti-hero fan.
I didn't read modern from this one at all. Not sure if it was those boots or the shorts but I immediately "read" Astroboy.
If you're going for more definition in him from a form and line perspective, you've succeeded. I definitely see that 2 line dynamic pose going on. But perhaps you've lobbed it a bit in the other extreme. Those boots need something else to define them, they're a lot of dead space. The Pierre/No. 2 redesign seems to straddle the baggy versus thoroughly fitted styles a bit more naturally.
Kai also seems *much* younger now than the storyboards/animatic you've shared imply him to be. Since we don't know too much about him as a character, if you've shifted something in his written personality this redesign might make more sense.
Still awesome to see you working towards making your "baby" into a reality!
I think both designs are very good, but this one definitely has a more active feel to it; as if the character is more of a participant in his story and less of a cipher.
While I like the overall redesign, I did like the original. I do like the sleeker look as I feel this blends in well with the other characters, particularly their combat gear. I'm not fully sold on the boots. I think there is too much volume in them, and I feel they read a little feminine in combination with the shorts. I get this more from the image on the left, which could be a result of the pose. I don't get this feeling as much from the image on the hover board.
With that said, I do think the overall changes you've made are positive. I feel like I have a better sense of who this character might be, but I love what you kept from the old design: the larger ears and the color scheme in particular.
